Olamae J. (Smyly) MacGinnis, of Worcester, formerly of Needham and Belmont died Wednesday, December 7, 2022 in The Christopher House, Worcester. She was 98.
She was born on November 22, 1924 in Waltham a daughter of the late Wilfred J. and Mary (Walsh) Smyly. Raised and educated in Watertown she married Harry H. MacGinnis. Residents of Belmont they were then longtime residents of Needham. Harry passed in 2001 and Olamae moved to Worcester in 2017.
Olamae worked as a secretary for B.F. Goodrich for many years.
In addition to her husband, Harry she was predeceased by her step-daughter, Karen Blanchard and siblings, Wil and Al Smyly, Evelyn Birchler and Marilyn Upton and her nephew with whom she was very close, Philip Birchler.
She leaves her step-son, Donald MacGinnis (Janet) of Medfield; three step-grandchildren; many nieces & nephews and their families including Walter Birchler of Shrewsbury.
Family and friends will honor and remember Olamae’s life by gathering for a calling hour in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Tuesday, December 13th from 8:30 - 9:30 a.m. before leaving in procession to The Church of Saint Luke, 132 Lexington Street, Belmont where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Watertown.
