Olive V. (Kenney) Harris

October 4, 1933 — May 27, 2020

Waltham - Mrs. Olive V. (Kenney) Harris, of Waltham, formerly of Weston, died on Wednesday May 27, 2020 in The Leland Home, Waltham. She was 86.

Olive was born in Waltham on October 4, 1933, a daughter of the late John F. and Olive (Connolly) Kenney. She attended Rosary Academy in Watertown and then earned her bachelors and master's degrees in early childhood education from Wheelock College.

She married Methuen native George R. Harris in February, 1957 in Saint Jude Church, Waltham and a year later the pair moved to Weston where they became lifelong residents.

Olive taught for a brief time at the Meadowbrook School and as a second grade teacher at the Brook School in Weston before establishing the Whittemore House Nursery School with her dear and trusted friend Betty Starr in 1971. When the school first opened its doors they welcomed eight children, and grew to having forty children and six teachers by the time Olive left in 1986. Her genuine care and dedication to the children and their families was apparent. Shortly thereafter she became a second grade assistant at the Country School and after that worked for a number of years as the secretary at the Woodland School in Weston.

She was also involved in many town groups and served on the Sociables board and on the board at Merriam Village. She was a parishioner of Saint Julia Parish on Boston Post Road where she was a longtime Eucharistic Minister. Olive also made many happy memories spending sunny days at Sunrise Beach in Marshfield.

She was the beloved wife of the late George R. Harris and is survived by her children, John Harris (Meg) of Tampa, Florida, Ken Harris of Natick, Rob Harris (Dana) of Sudbury and Mary Hedges (John) of Wellesley; her grandchildren, Ryan Harris, Danika Wells, Duncan Harris, Alexander Harris, Emily Heffelmen, Michala Harris and Taylor Harris; her great-grandchildren, Melina Wells, Ezra Harris, Jack Heffelman and Lucille Heffelman; her brother, John Kenney of Watertown; her brother-in-law Daniel Vallucci of Weston and many nieces, nephews and their families.

She was the sister of the late Frances Vallucci and Barbara Rosse and sister-in-law of the late Richard Rosse and Annette Kenney.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated privately at Saint Julia's Church concluding with burial at Linwood Cemetery, Weston.
