Scarborough, Maine – Mrs. Patricia A. 'Pat' (Sullivan) Cloonan, of Scarborough, formerly of Waltham, died Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at Seaside Rehabilitation Center in Portland, Maine. She was 89.
Pat was born in Wellesley on April 13, 1925, a daughter of the late Frank and Mary (Barrett) Sullivan and was a 1942 graduate of Wellesley High School. After graduation she worked at Roger Spear and Company, stock analysts in Babson Park.
On November 8, 1947 she married Waltham firefighter Edward A. Cloonan. The couple soon made their home in Waltham where she lived before moving to Scarborough three years ago. Throughout their sixty-one years of married life Ed and Pat were inseparable until Ed's death on May 19, 2009.
While Ed rose through the ranks of the fire department, becoming the chief in 1964, Pat ran the house with efficiency, grace and style. Always involved in her children's affairs and the goings on in parish life she served as president of the Little Nippers Baseball League Auxiliary, Saint Mary's Mother's Club and the Christian Brothers Auxiliary of Saint Mary's High School. She had also been a member of the Pony League Auxiliary, the Connie Mack Baseball League Auxiliary and Saint Mary's Ladies Sodality.
In addition Pat worked for years as a bookkeeper for her dear friends, the Woodside's, at their Weston Street office.
She leaves her childen Jane P. Bates and her husband, John, of Cumberland, Maine, John E. 'Jack' Cloonan and his wife, Linda, of Scarborough, Maine, Edward T. 'Ned' Cloonan and his wife, Linda, of Greenwich, Connecticut, Richard J. Cloonan and his wife, Bibiana of Manassas, Virginia and Elizabeth M. 'Betsy' Henderson and her husband, Paul, of Scarborough, Maine; her grandchildren, John, Katie and Terry Bates, Jacey, Olivia and Sara Cloonan and Matthew, Meghan and Molly Henderson; her great-grandchildren, Campbell, Declan and Devan Bates; her brother, Robert Sullivan of Michigan and many nieces and nephews.
Pat was also a sister of the late Francis, John, James and Edward Sullivan and Mary Tracey.
Family and friends will honor and remember Pat's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Sunday, July 27th from 4 to 7 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Monday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Mary's Church, 133 School Street, Waltham where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
