Patricia "Pat" Coughlin was born on June 2, 1935 in Somerville a daughter of the late Patrick Francis Coughlin and Sarah Josephine (Cassidy) Coughlin. Raised in Jamaica Plain she graduated from Blessed Sacrament High School in 1953 and then earned her Bachelor's degree from Salem State University in 1957.
She met Swampscott and Lynn native, Maurice J. Nolan while on the beach at Singing Beach in Manchester-by-the-Sea where he was a lifeguard. They later married on June 28, 1958 in her native parish, Blessed Sacrament in Jamaica Plain. Pat made Westwood her home for over fifty-five years. Maurice's untimely and unexpected death on April 21st 2003 meant adjustments living as a widow. She continued her time at their home in Singer Island, Florida and in 2017 she transitioned to The Carriage House at Lee's Farm in Wayland.
Pat died peacefully on Saturday, September 18, 2021. She was 86. Pat's family would like to acknowledge the extraordinary care that Pat received at the Carriage House. Pat so enjoyed the programs organized by Jazz Ross. Pat also received wonderful care from Good Shepherd Community Care and from Roxana's Senior Home Care.
Pat taught business for many years in various school districts including, Brockton, Roslindale, Stoughton, Randolph and most memorably in Norwood and Walpole.
Pat loved traveling, fine dining, and time on the beach. Pat led an active life, she skied, had a hole-in-one in golf, took water aerobics for many years and walked daily. Pat and Maurice traveled the world including Ireland, China, many countries in Europe, South America, many US states, and the Caribbean. In addition to her husband, Maurice, she was predeceased by her sister, Mary Coughlin and her dear friend Daniel Nolan.
She leaves her daughter, Mary Nolan Geary and her husband, Jim of Waltham. Loving Nana to Caitlin Patricia Geary. Loving 'Nana Pat' to Michelle McElhiney (Michael) and her children, Jennifer, Brian and Connor, Deanne Gaudet (Lincoln) of Natick and their children, Emily, Ethan and Ella; sister of the late Mary Coughlin. She also leaves her brother-in-law Retired Colonel James M Nolan and his wife, Teresa and many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will honor and remember Patricia's life by gathering for a calling hour in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Wednesday, September 22nd from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. before leaving in procession to Saint Mary's Church, 133 School Street, Waltham, where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, West Roxbury.
