Mr. Paul J. Connearney Sr., of Waltham, died Friday, April 27, 2018 in Maristhill Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. He was 92.
Born on January 2, 1926 in Waltham he was a son of the late Patrick and Ann (O'Brien) Connearney. Paul honorably served his country in the United States Army during World War II in the 87th Infantry Division and saw action during the Battle of the Bulge. He later served as a sergeant major in the Army Reserves for over thirty years. Paul married Rita Mullaly in Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church on June 22, 1946. Married for sixty-two years Rita died on December 31, 2008.
Paul worked for the Department of Public Works for the City of Waltham as a supervisor in the water department who oversaw the installation of a city wide system to read water meters. Paul worked for over 40 years before retiring.
A devoted patriot he was a proud veteran and very devoted husband. His relationship with his son, Patrick was more than father and son. They were best friends and roommates who constantly looked out for one another.
In addition to his wife, Rita he was predeceased by his siblings, Francis, Mary, Elizabeth and Jane Connearney and Julia Duggan.
He leaves his children, Lawrence 'Larry' Connearney and his wife, Linda, Rosella Saia and her husband, Stephen of Waltham and Patrick Connearney, all of Waltham, Paul Connearney Jr. and his wife, Patricia of Franklin; his grandchildren, Keith Connearney, Eric Saia (Kristen), Suzanne Dowd, Ashley Horgan (Rob), Jessica Connearney (Kevin Fagan); his great-grandchildren, Wm. Liam, Lucy, Emmie, Jett and Morgan; nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will honor and remember Paul's life by gathering to visit in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Tuesday, May 1st from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. followed by his funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Burial with military honors will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
