Waltham – Mr. Paul F. Cooney, of Waltham, died Sunday, January 17, 2016 in Mount Auburn Hospital, Cambridge. He was 88.

Paul was born in Somerville on January 5, 1928, a son of the late Edward and Margaret (Dempsey) Cooney, and lived in Waltham for most of his life. During World War II he served with the United States Army.

Until his retirement he worked for the Millipore Corporation. Paul was a member of the Elks Lodge in Maynard and enjoyed crossword puzzles.

He was a devoted Boston Bruins fan and season ticket holder; proud of his membership in "The Gallery Gods", a group of fans seated near the rafters at The Garden.

The husband of the late Anne C. (MacNevin) Cooney, he leaves his son, Shaun N. Cooney and his wife, Elsa P., of Newton; his brother, Donald Cooney of Billerica and several nieces and nephews.

Paul was a brother of the late Edward Cooney, Katherine Conroy and Margaret Campbell.

Family and friends will honor and remember Paul's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Wednesday, January 20th from 6 to 8 p.m. and again at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Jude Church, 147 Main Street, Waltham where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be private.
