Mr. Paul J. “Jerry” Hession, Sr., of Waltham, died Saturday, May 20, 2023 at CareOne of Newton. He was 85.
Jerry was born on September 2, 1937, a son of the late Joseph and Irene (Walsh) Hession. He was raised in Waltham and after graduating from high school served with the United States Army during the Korean War.
Until his retirement he was a patrolman for thirty years with the Belmont Police Department where he made many lifelong friends among fellow officers and community members. Jerry was also a lifetime fan of the Boston Red Sox.
He was the husband of the late Eleanor A. (McGovern) Hession.
Jerry leaves his children, Paul J. Hession (Lesley) of Westford, Deidre Hession of Marlborough, Thomas Hession of Natick, Joseph Hession (Julie) and Stephen Hession (Deborah), all of Londonderry, New Hampshire; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was also a brother of the late James, John and Joseph Hession, Lorraine Gordon and Barbara Sevigny.
Family and friends will honor and remember Jerry’s life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Wednesday, May 24th from 4 to 7 p.m. and again on Thursday morning when his funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham.
