Waltham - Mr. Paul L. “Pop” Howes, of Waltham, died Wednesday, June 6, 2007 at Newton-Wellesley Hospital. He was 91. Born in Everett, a son of the late John and Grace Howes, Pop had lived in Waltham for over sixty years and worked as a laborer for the City of Waltham in the water department for twenty-five years. Pop was a member of the Joseph F. Hill American Legion Post # 156 in Waltham. Pop also enjoyed camping in Apple Valley, Maine. During World War II he served with the United States Army. Pop was the husband of the late Mary W. (Shutt) Howes. He leaves his children, Paul R. Howes and his wife, Joyce, Janet M. Nedza and her husband, John, and Maureen Turmell all of Waltham, Richard Howes and his wife, Cheryl, of Gardner; 8 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. The Funeral will be held Saturday at 8 a.m. from The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte.20), Waltham followed by a Funeral Mass in Saint Mary’s Church, 133 School Street, Waltham at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham. Visiting hours will be held Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
