Waltham - Mr. Paul R. Marqus, of Waltham, died Saturday March 15, 2008 at the E.N. Rogers Memorial Veteran's Hosital in Bedford. He was 83. Born and raised in Waltham, Paul was a son of the late Christopher and Loretta (Condon) Marqus and had been a lifelong resident. Until his retirement, he worked for many years as a manager for the J.L. Thompson Company in Waltham. During World War II, Paul served with the 134th Infantry Regiment of the United States Army. He participated in the battles at Normandy, Northern France, the Rhineland, the Ardennes Forest and in Central Europe. On July 17, 1944 he was wounded as his unit fought through the hedgerows during the breakout from Normandy. He was awarded a Purple Heart for his wounds and earned a Bronze Star for bravery for separate actions against the enemy. Paul was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Waltham and American Legion Post No. 440 in Newton. He leaves his wife, Alice M. (LeBlanc) Marqus; two sisters, Kathleen Berube of Waltham and Mary Baker of Needham and many nieces and nephews including Leigh-Anne Bell of Reading. He was also a brother of the late Daniel Marqus, Joseph Marqus, Agnes Whitman and Ruth DiCicco. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral at 8 a.m. Wednesday from The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham followed by a Funeral Mass in Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, 880 Trapelo Road, Waltham at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
