Lexington - Mr. Paul J. McGuire, of Lexington, died unexpectedly at home on June 13, 2016. He was 78.
Born on January 25, 1938 in Waltham, he was a son of the late Francis and Helen (Bowman) McGuire. Paul was a graduate of the former Saint Mary's High School and earned his Bachelor's degree from the University of Massachusetts at Boston. He honorably served his country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War.
Paul's professional career began with the Central Intelligence Agency during the 1960's. He then worked for the Department of Energy as a security specialist where he worked most of his career. Post September 11, 2001 he was asked to return to work in the Division of Homeland Security as an auditor which he did until 2003. Most of his adult life he lived in the metro Washington, DC area and in Chevy Chase, Maryland before returning to his native New England in 2003 settling in Lexington. Retirement afforded Paul an opportunity become a regular volunteer at Emerson Hospital in Concord.
In addition to his parents Paul was predeceased by his siblings, Robert and Francis McGuire.
He leaves his brother James P. McGuire and his wife, Nancy of Woonsocket, Rhode Island; his sister-in-law Constance McGuire of Bedford and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Family and friends will honor and remember Paul's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Monday, June 20th from 5 to 8 p.m. and again at 10 a.m. on Tuesday morning before leaving in procession to Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, 880 Trapelo Road, Waltham where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Belmont Cemetery, Belmont.
