West Yarmouth – Mr. Paul J. Patenaude, of West Yarmouth, formerly of Waltham, died Friday, September 13, 2013 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. He was 65.
Paul was born in Pomona, California on January 30, 1948, a son of the late Joseph and Madeleine (Lenoir) Patenaude. Shortly after that his family moved to Waltham where he had been a lifelong resident and a graduate of Waltham High School.
In his youth his family had been members of Saint Joseph's Parish in Waltham. On September 20, 1969 he married Rita M. Carpentino, also of Waltham, at Saint Mary's Church and the couple settled in Waltham and had been residents before moving to West Yarmouth.
Until his retirement Paul worked as a chemical technician for more than twenty years at the Polaroid Corporation in Waltham.
Paul and Rita enjoyed traveling around the country where he became a self-taught tour guide learning the 'inside baseball' knowledge and trivia about all of their destinations. He was also a pretty good golfer and a talented chef in the kitchen at home. He was passionate about all of the Boston sports teams and was a member of the exclusive club of people that really enjoy holding a newspaper in their hands; devouring every bit of it cover to cover every day.
In addition to his wife of forty-four years, Rita, Paul leaves his daughter, Nicole Green and her husband, Kenneth, of Wrentham; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Joyce Patenaude of South Carolina, James and Susan Carpentino of Alaska, Marian Carpentino of Buzzards Bay, Susan and Guy Sylvester of Bedford, Francis and Kim Carpentino of Manchester, New Hampshire, Paula and Ray Doucette of Framingham and John and Bonnie Carpentino of Lancaster and many nieces and nephews.
Paul was also the brother of the late Joseph P. Patenaude.
Family and friends will honor and remember Paul's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Thursday, September 19th, from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 10 a.m. on Friday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Patrick's Church, 212 Main Street, Watertown where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham.
