Waltham – Mr. Paul R. Trombley, of Waltham, died Friday, December 30, 2016 in Maristhill Nursing Home. He was 96.

Paul was born in Waltham on May 2, 1920, a son of the late Joseph and Evelyn (Eddy) Trombley. He was a graduate of Waltham High School and then served with the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. He saw substantial action and was involved in battles throughout the South Pacific, including New Guinea, the Philippines and at Okinawa.

After basic training and before being sent overseas he met Ellen O'Rourke at a military dance in Massapequa Park, New York. They corresponded throughout the war and were married shortly after his return. The couple made Waltham their lifetime home.

Until his retirement Paul worked as a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service for over forty-three years. He was also a longtime member of the Waltham Cemetery Commission. Paul will best be remembered for being a devoted husband, father and grandfather.

The beloved husband of the late Ellen K. (O'Rourke) Trombley, he leaves his children, Peter G. Trombley, Daniel J. Trombley and his wife, Betty, and Lyn S. Sturtevant and her husband, Steven, all of Waltham; his sister, June O'Brien of Waltham; ten grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Paul was also the brother of the late Joseph, Kenneth and George Trombley.

Family and friends will honor and remember Paul's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Tuesday, January 3rd from 4 to 7 p.m. and again at 11 a.m. on Wednesday morning when his funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham.
