Waltham – Mr. Paul J. Valentino, of Waltham, died Thursday, May 27, 2010 at his home. He was 94.
Paul was born and raised in Manhattan, New York City on May 10, 1916, a son of the late Attanasio and Michelina (Raimondo) Valentino and had lived in Brooklyn, New York and in the Washington, D.C. area before moving to Waltham fifty years ago.
During World War II he served with the United States Army during the campaigns in North Africa, Italy and in France. He was a graduate of the American Broadcast College and attended American University in Washington, D.C.
Until his retirement Paul worked as a data manager for the United States Air Force Electronic Systems Division. During his career he was most proud of his pioneering work with the Spacetrack Program, a system developed for satellite tracking. Paul’s interests included chess and poetry and he volunteered his time teaching chess at the Waltham Boys & Girls Club.
He leaves his wife, Catherine G. (Cincotta) Valentino; his son, Dr. John G. Valentino and his fiancé, Cindy J. Wolf, of Waltham; one brother, Joseph Valentino of Annandale, Virginia and many nieces and nephews.
Paul was also a brother of the late Anthony and Vincent Valentino and Mary Pittas.
Family and friends will honor and remember Paul’s life by gathering for a Memorial Mass to be celebrated on Wednesday at 6 p.m. in Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, 880 Trapelo Road, Waltham.
