Waltham – Mrs. Peggy Ann (Brayne) Sullivan, of Waltham, died Sunday, June 21, 2015 at Newton-Wellesley Hospital. She was 86.
Peggy Ann was born in Waltham on March 23, 1929, a daughter of the late Thomas E. and Margaret (Hart) Brayne, and had been a lifelong resident. She graduated from Saint Mary's High School in Waltham in 1946 and after that went to work as a stenographer for Hood Rubber Company.
On May 24, 1952 she married David M. Sullivan at Saint Mary's and the couple made their home in Waltham where they raised their family. They had twenty-nine happy years together until Dave's sudden death on August 14, 1981.
Peggy Ann was an energetic and faithful member of the community throughout her life. She devoted her life to service, especially in her work at Saint Mary's Church and at the Stigmatine's Espousal Center in Waltham. There, she coordinated retreats and various events and was also a regular Eucharistic minister during Mass. She had also been a longtime member of the Legion of Mary.
In 1979 she began working as a secretary at the Gaebler Children's Center in Waltham. She remained there until retiring in 1991. Never skipping a beat, she kept busy in her later years by acting as the primary organizer for trips, bingo, and cards with her senior group.
She leaves her children, Michael D. Sullivan of Waltham, Colleen M. O'Donnell and her husband, Paul, of Concord, Sheila M. Clifford and her husband, Lawrence, of Waltham, Shauna M. Chamberlain of Natick, Mary Ann Higgins and her husband, Robert, of Waltham, Maureen A. Falzone and her husband, Pasquale, of Ashland, Deidre A. Costa and her husband, David, of Londonderry, New Hampshire and Joseph P. Sullivan and his wife, Kelly, of Watertown; her grandchildren, Regan O'Donnell, Kristen Beevers, Shaun and Ryan Clifford, Ian and Megan Chamberlain, Darcy DeLosa, Andrea, Nathan, and Kenton Higgins, Michael and Helen Falzone, Kaitlyn Bruce, Maddie Chambers, David and Joseph Costa, and Bridget Sullivan; 19 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Peggy Ann was also the mother of the late Moira A. Chambers and a sister of the late Abigail Swensen, Dorothy Carolyn Hylander and Constance Brown.
Family and friends will honor and remember Peggy Ann's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Wednesday, June 24th from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Thursday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Mary's Church, 133 School Street, Waltham where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
