Penney L. Lydon, of Waltham, died Tuesday, September 24, 2024 at Care Dimensions Hospice House in Lincoln following a period of declining health. She was 77.
Penney was born in Boston on January 18, 1947, a daughter of the late Joseph and Dorothy (Penney) Lydon and was a 1965 graduate of Waltham High School. After that she earned a degree from the Shepard-Gill School of Practical Nursing in Boston.
She then began a lifelong career as a licensed practical nurse in New Orleans, Louisiana for a year and for another year in Honolulu, Hawaii. Her love of traveling was a passion that she indulged throughout her life.
Following her return to Boston, Penney worked for a number of years at Massachusetts General Hospital and at Saint Elizabeth’s Hospital in Brighton. Her calm, capable and friendly demeanor earned her many friends among patients, their families and hospital staff.
It could be said that Penney never had a bad day . . . always happy and upbeat, her nursing career and her personality were a perfect pair. She worked hard throughout her life to achieve her goals and loved life’s simple pleasures . . . a day in the sand at Singing Beach in Manchester made for a perfect outing.
She leaves her sisters and brother, Merrily Smith, Sue Ellen Daddona (Jack), Andrea Arnold (Robert) and Steven Lydon (Denise), all of Waltham; her lifelong best friends, Claire, Shirley and Karen and many nieces, nephews and their families.
She will be missed.
Funeral services for Penney will be private.
