Peter S. Guzzi

West Newton – Peter S. Guzzi, a lifelong resident of West Newton, passed away peacefully on April 9th, 2024 at the Miriam Boyd Parlin Hospice Residence in Wayland. He was 98. 

Peter was born in Newton on October 5, 1926 a son of the late Louis W. and Anna J. (Crupi) Guzzi and was a graduate of Newton High School with the class of 1944. He served our country in the U.S. Army from 1950 - 1952 in the 40th Infantry of the Korean War. He saw active duty in the Republic of Korea. He was in the Army reserves until 1956, retiring as a corporal. He attended his last Korean War reunion in Florida at age 90.

Peter was a member of the Newton Fire Department for 30 years from 1953 to 1983. Peter’s career started at Station 3 in Newton Centre and he later became the driver for Chief Perkins. For most of Peter’s career with the Newton Fire Department he was stationed at Engine 9 near Boston College.  Peter finished his career at Engine 5 on Commonwealth Avenue in Auburndale.    

He was an avid sports fan. He traveled the world to attend the Olympics and other international events. He played semi-pro hockey with the Brighton Knights and was known as “Pistol Pete” because of his speed. Peter was a season ticket holder to the Bruins, BC football and BC hockey games, traveling with numerous friends, continuing for close to 50 years. Peter was also a consistent source of support to his nephews, grandnephews and grandnieces sporting endeavors.

Peter was predeceased by his siblings, Dominic (Josephine) Guzzi and Gloria Guzzi as well as his longtime companion, Maryanne Beauregard, and nephew David W. Guzzi.

He is survived by nephews, Michael (Beth) Guzzi and Richard (Linda) Guzzi; grand nieces and nephews, Chris (Sharon) Nash, Julie (Rick) Dell, Amanda (Scott) Fennel, Brian Guzzi, Eric Guzzi, Ashley (Sean) Abbott, Allyson Guzzi and their families. Peter also leaves many cousins and friends including the Beauregard and Aborn families, and community of friends and caring staff members at the Scandinavian Living Center where he resided the last six years of his life. 

His family is grateful for the care Peter received at the Newton Wellesley Hospital and the Good Shepherd Miriam Boyd Parlin Hospice House in Wayland. 

Family and friends will honor and remember Peter’s life by gathering to visit on Friday, April 12th from 10 to 11 a.m. in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street Waltham followed by his funeral service at 11 a.m. Burial with military honors will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
