Peter F. Sauer

July 1, 1955 — February 2, 2016

Waltham – Asked how he wanted to be remembered, Peter Sauer said to tell people that he ate well and drank well and loved his family very much.

To say that he led a busy, dynamic and accomplished life would be an understatement. And although he may be remembered in many ways for his work accomplishments he was grounded firmly in his faith and by his family. His favorite scripture from the first few lines of chapter fourteen of John's gospel prepared him, and his family, well for the recent struggle that he faced.

Peter F. Sauer was sixty years old when he lost a two year battle against cancer at the Kaplan Hospice House in Danvers. In the end he had the chance to say hello and good-bye to those closest to him and that was a great gift.

He was born on July 1, 1955 in Mount Vernon, New York, a son of the late Fred and Alice (Gehm) Sauer, and was raised and educated in Nanuet, New York. After that he attended American University in Washington, D.C., graduating in 1977, and two years later earned his master's degree in education and sports medicine from Salisbury State University in Maryland.

Peter spent his entire career improving the lives of others in various facets of healthcare. He started out as a sports trainer working with teams such as the Washington Redskins and with U.S. Olympics and found time to volunteer with the American Red Cross where he learned first-hand the value of a neighbors help when disaster struck. It was a lesson that guided him throughout his career.

Most recently he was president of Fresenius Health Partners, part of a global network of companies that treat renal and chronic kidney disease. Earlier in his career he worked with physician group practices in the Washington, D.C. area, in Canfield, Ohio where he lived for fourteen years and in Pennsylvania, Virginia and Maryland.

He would also tell you that the best chapter in his life began in 1985 when he married Woodstock, Connecticut native Elisabeth F. "Betsey" de Treville. Peter and Betsey created many happy memories during their thirty plus year marriage and found wonderful friends along the way.

In addition to his wife, Betsey, Peter leaves his children, Peter A.F. Sauer of New Cumberland, West Virginia, Annelie E. Sauer of Washington, D.C. and Caroline A.W. Sauer of Waltham; his sister, Jane Glennon of Bonita Springs, Florida; his father-in-law, Andrew de Treville of Concord, New Hampshire, his brother-in-law, Peter de Treville of Valley Forge, Pennsylvania; two nieces and one nephew.

He was also the son-in-law of the late Polly de Treville.

Family and friends will honor and remember Peter's life by gathering for calling hours from 3 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, February 6th in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham and will conclude with his funeral service at 5 p.m.

Memorial donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675.

. . . "Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. In my Father's house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also. And you know the way to where I am going." . . .

Rest in peace friend.
