West Newton – Mr. Mr. Phillip J. Trainor, of West Newton, died Tuesday, March 6, 2012 in his home. He was 60.
Phil was born in Waltham on July 1, 1951, a son of the late Joseph F. and Mary E. (Thompson) Trainor and had been a lifelong resident of Newton. He was a graduate of Newton North High School and Boston University and earned his master's degree in business administration from Suffolk University in Boston. He worked as an accountant for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers before becoming a supervising accountant for the Central Artery/Tunnel Project in Boston.
Phil was self-taught in many areas including Chinese culture and the Chinese language and will be remembered by those who loved him as being not only a kind soul but a 'walking encyclopedia'. He enjoyed gardening, chess and politics and was a voracious reader.
He leaves his sisters, Mary Alice Delorey and Ann Marie Trainor, both of West Newton; his nephew, Robert E. Delorey III of Honolulu, Hawaii, and his niece, Sarah T. Delorey of Roslindale.
Family and friends will honor and remember Phil's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Sunday, March 18th, from 2 to 5 p.m. and again at 9:30 a.m. on Monday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Bernard's Church, 1523 Washington Street, West Newton, where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 am. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
