Watertown – Mrs. Philomena (Berardino) Calvi, of Watertown, died Friday, February 20, 2009 in her home. She was 95. Philomena was born in Boston on August 10, 1913, a daughter of the late Frank and Mary (Careri) Berardino. Apart from living in Waltham for a short time, she had been a lifelong resident of Watertown. Until her retirement, Philomena was a hairdresser and the proprietor of Phyllis' Beauty Salon in Watertown. The wife of the late George J. Calvi, she leaves her children, Sandra M. Antaramian of Palm Desert, California and Susan M. Clifford of Watertown; her grandchildren, Lisa Vaglica of California, Denise Luisi of Florida, Brian and Kevin Clifford, both of Watertown; her great-grandchildren, John Wile Antaramian, Melissa Wile, Joseph Luisi Maribella and Isabella Luisi; her great-great-grandson, Anthony Barrucci; her brother, Silvio Berardino of Natick and many nieces and nephews, including Jane DiGregorio of Conway, New Hampshire. Philomena was the mother-in-law of the late Robert F. Clifford, and the sister of the late John Berardino, Esther Ramuno, and Emilio Berardino. Family and friends will honor and remember Philomena's life by gathering for calling hours at The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20). Waltham on Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. and again at 8 a.m. on Monday before leaving in procession to Saint Luke's Church, 132 Lexington Street, Belmont, where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Burial will be on Monday afternoon at 2:15 p.m. in Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
