Westford – Mrs. Phyllis M. (Simmons) Mizzoni, of Westford, formerly of Waltham, died Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at Lowell General Hospital. She was 79.
Phyllis was born in Waltham on October 9, 1938, a daughter of the late William and Marguerite (Kennedy) Simmons, and was a graduate of Waltham High School. She played on the high school basketball team and was an accomplished tennis player throughout her life.
She earned an associate's degree in accounting from Bentley College and until her retirement worked as a supervisor at BayBank in Waltham.
Phyllis had been a lifelong Waltham resident before moving to Westford thirteen years ago where she was active at the Westford and Chelmsford senior centers. She was also a talented artist and sculptor.
The wife of the late Robert F. Mizzoni she leaves her children, David Mizzoni of Bedford, New Hampshire and Glen Mizzoni of Waltham; her former daughter-in-law, Susan Mizzoni of Saco, Maine; her grandchildren, Jessica, Genevieve, Gina, Johanna, Michael and Nicholas; her great-grandchildren, George, John, Gianna, Joseph and Giovanni; her brother and sister, Michael Simmons of Townsend and Mary Voss and her husband, Gerry, of Halifax and many nieces and nephews.
Phyllis was also the mother of the late Robert P. Mizzoni and Susan Mizzoni and sister of the late William Simmons.
Family and friends will honor and remember Phyllis' life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Friday, February 16th from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Saturday morning before leaving in procession to Sacred Heart Church, 311 River Street, Waltham where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Grove Hill Cemetery, Waltham.
