Mr. Prasun K. Sen, of Waltham, died Friday, December 20, 2019 at Boston Medical Center. He was 71.
Prasun was born July 4, 1948 in Calcutta, India, a son of the late Paresh N. and Sulekha (Chowdhury) Sen. Raised and educated in India, he graduated from Calcutta University, now Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology, with a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering and a Master's degree in Industrial Engineering, graduating valedictorian.
He married Chandrima Sen in January of 1976. Born on the 4th of July, he felt destined to immigrate to United States and arrived on Good Friday in 1981, settling for a short period in New York before moving to Waltham the same year.
Prasun worked as a bridge engineer with Massachusetts Highway and later the MBTA before retiring in 2017. Over the course of 33 years, his work focused primarily on bridge construction and maintenance, establishing system wide programs. Prasun's contributions to the state of Massachusetts included marquee projects across the MetroWest Boston area. Through his work, Prasun valued the opportunity to make the state a better place to live.
While Prasun's professional accomplishments had a deep impact on local communities, he is most remembered for the care with which he treated others. His warm personality pervaded his relationships and he was widely beloved by friends and colleagues, all of whom he considered to be extended family. He approached life with a deep reverence for the interconnectedness amongst people.
Prasun imbued an appreciation for honor, hard work, and grit within his family who are forever grateful to him for the life that he made possible for them.
Prasun had a love for good food, good company, and for the New England Patriots. He enjoyed economics, travel, as well as long walks within Waltham on sunny days. He had a deep love of country and was a proud Waltham resident for 38 years.
He leaves his wife Chandrima Sen; his children Sarmila Banerjee (Arindam) of Acton and Arjun Sen (Sarah) of Winnetka, Illinois; his grandchildren, Arijit and Ajay Banerjee and Ruby Sen; his sister, Sukla Roy in Calcutta, India and several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will honor and remember Prasun's life by gathering in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Tuesday, December 24th, where his funeral service will be held at 11 am. Cremation ceremony will follow at Newton Crematory, 791 Walnut Street, Newton.
A Shraddha will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, December 30th in Shree Hari Dham Temple, 1504 Boston Providence Turnpike Unit #17, Norwood, Massachusetts 02062.
