Priscilla A. 'Nancy' (Blanchard) Aucoin, of Waltham, died on Saturday, March 25, 2023 at Mount Auburn Hospital in Cambridge. She was one day shy of her 92nd birthday.
Nancy was born in Boston on March 26, 1931, a daughter of the late Peter and Mabel (MacEachern) Blanchard. Raised and educated in Roxbury, she married Waltham native William Aucoin in Saint Joseph’s Church in Roxbury on July 28, 1951. Shortly after their wedding, the newlyweds would have to be separated for a short period time due to Bill‘s military service. Nancy moved to Waltham living with Bill’s mother, who came to be affectionately known as Choo-choo-nana due to her proximity to, and her grandchildren‘s affinity, for trains. When Bill returned from the service they settled in Waltham to begin their family.
Family was everything to Nancy, as a devoted wife and mother, then grandmother and great-grandmother, she was the heart of the family. She was one of the sweetest and most charitable people you will meet; this came directly from her faith in God. She also had a fiery side, her children knew she didn’t take any guff from anyone, a true mama-bear. They also recall that you didn’t want to be on the receiving end, which they knew they were anytime one of them returned home late at night and she would be up, as always, praying her rosaries until all her cubs were home safe.
She and her husband Bill were devoted parishioners and active at Saint Joseph’s Church in Waltham for many years. She also loved to work on her ceramics which were often gifts for her family.
In addition to her husband William D. “Bill” Aucoin, she leaves her children, William “Bill” Aucoin (Debi) of Marlborough, David Aucoin of Waltham, Brian Aucoin (Denise) of Hudson, Yvonne Farnsworth (Doug) of Waltham, Nancy Leonard (Tom) of Marlborough and Diane Conti (Mark) of Worcester; her grandchildren Sean, Susan, Jason, Jeffrey, Eric, Danielle, Adam, Stephen, Gary, Keith, Chris, Andrew and Kerri; her great-grandchildren, Jacob, Myla and Logan and many nieces, nephews and their families.
She was also the sister of the late George Blanchard, Elizabeth Armstrong, Helen Whapham, Mildred Aucoin and Irene Matthews
Family and friends will honor and remember Nancy’s life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham, on Wednesday, March 29th from 4 to 7 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Thursday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Mary’s Church, 133 School Street, Waltham, where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
