Priscilla Plumb Gibson

Priscilla Alden Plumb Gibson of Waltham died peacefully at Greenwood Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Wakefield on December 10, 2014. She was 97.

Priscilla was born November 27, 1917 to Ethel (Shaw) and Nathan Plumb in Milford, Connecticut. She was raised in Milford and graduated as valedictorian of the Milford High School class of 1935. She then attended and graduated from Weylister Secretarial School. She worked as an executive secretary at General Electric in Bridgeport where she met her husband Stewart, now deceased.

Priscilla and Stewart married in 1939 and had the first of their three children, Lucinda in 1941. In 1943 they moved to the Piety Corner neighborhood in Waltham where they quickly became cornerstones. Priscilla was an accomplished homemaker, equally comfortable with a sewing machine and a plumber's wrench, secretary to Stewart, and chief counsel to their three children, and many others!.

Priscilla was a self-starter, sharp as a whip, with a great interest in and respect for nature, science and the stock market. She was a skillful hostess, with the Gibson home entertaining many guests at some grand parties over the years. She was actively involved in the League of Women Voters and in many local groups and organizations such as the MSPCC, The Waltham Baby Hospital, The Leland Home, Waltham conservation groups and the Piety Corner Club.

Priscilla leaves her son, Stewart K. Gibson III of Somerville, her daughter Lucinda and her husband Rodney Sargent of Maine, her son-in-law Paul Somers of Wakefield, five grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Her daughter, Deborah Somers of Wakefield pre-deceased her in 2011.

A memorial service will be held at Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street, Waltham on Saturday, January 31 at 11:00 AM.
