Waltham - Mr. Raymond P. Guelli, of Waltham, died Tuesday, August 31, 2021 at UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester following a period of declining health. He was 88.
Ray was born in Waltham on February 22, 1933, a son of the late Giacomo and Antonia (Terrasi) Guelli. He was a lifelong Waltham resident and a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
After he got home from the service Ray became a skilled hydraulic mechanic and had worked for over fifty years building truck bodies for Truck Equipment Boston, formerly known as Garwood Truck Bodies.
On April 20, 1958 he married the love of his life, Evelyn Anderson in Saint Theresa's Church in Everett. The pair spent fifty-seven happy years until her death on December 30, 2015.
Never leaving his hands idle, he built the family home on Newton Street and their cottage in Alton, New Hampshire. A loving, kind, and gentle man, he always stepped in to help family and friends complete any project big or small.
In addition to his beloved wife, Evelyn, Ray was also predeceased by his siblings, the late Gertrude DeLuca, Louis Guelli, Angela Asaro, Josephine Rando, Anne LeBlanc, Regina Brandt and Mary Corbett Callahan.
He leaves his children, James Guelli (Nadene Worth) of Sudbury, Janice LaBrache (Paul) of Waltham, Robert Guelli (Deborah), Raymond Guelli, Jr. (Andrea), all of Rockport and Patricia Keenan (Sean) of Littleton; his brother, Joseph Guelli of Framingham; fifteen grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and their families including his nephew and best friend, Bob DeLuca.
Family and friends will honor and remember Ray's life by gathering at his Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. on Thursday, September 9th in Sacred Heart Church, 311 River Street, Waltham. Burial will follow in Newton Cemetery.
Ray's family politely requests that guests wear face coverings at all services.
