Weston- Mr. Raymond W. Washburn of Weston died Wednesday October 8, 2003 in the SunRise of Weston. He was 103. He was one month shy of his 104th birthday. Born in Waltham, a son of the late Winslow and Alice (Olney) Washburn, Mr. Washburn was an Antique Auto Appraiser for many years. One of Raymonds earliest memories was in 1906, when he helped his father construct their home on Merriam Street in Weston, the house which served as his residence until his death. He remembered hand dipping shingles into a bucket of stain during construction. Mr. Washburn also remembered being taken to school in the winter in a horse drawn sleigh and riding in horse drawn buggies with various local deliverymen. Mr. Washburn continued to drive his car within less than a month of his death. He had an exemplary safety record and frequently visited his friend Ruth Woodman daily until the time of her death in 2002. Mr. Washburn was the husband of the late Isabella F. (Hardy) Washburn, a brother of the late Olney Washburn, Florence E. Jewett, and Marion Jones and is survived by several nieces and nephews. Graveside Services will be held Thursday, October 16, 2003 at 2 p.m. in Linwood Cemetery, Weston.
