Brighton – Mr. Richard J. Breen, of Brighton, died Thursday, September 4, 2014 at Brigham and Women's Hospital, Boston. He was 72.
Richard was born in Boston on August 1, 1942, a son of the late Walter and Irene (McNulty) Breen, and was raised in Allston. He was a graduate of Boston Technical High School and earned a degree in computer technology at Lowell Technical Institute, now a part of the University of Massachusetts at Lowell.
On April 15, 1967 Richard married Brighton native Mary F. Keeffe in Saint Columbkille Church and the couple made their home in Brighton where they have been residents since. In recent years they spent many happy winters in Marco Island, Florida.
For forty-three years Richard worked for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Revenue retiring as its deputy chief ten years ago. After that he enjoyed working as an usher for the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park in Boston. He was a longtime member of the BoSox Club.
In addition to his wife of forty-seven years, Mary, he leaves his children, Daniel J. Breen and his wife, Shealyn, of Lexington Kentucky, Christopher R. Breen and his wife, Kathlyn, of Danvers and Colleen M. Miller of Arlington; his grandchildren, Jack, Rowan, Gavin, Siobhan, Liam, Shannon, Julia, Luke, John Paul, Gianna, Tressa, Clare, and Joseph; his sister, Eleanor Byrne of Marco Island, Florida and many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will honor and remember Richard's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Sunday, September 7th, from 3 to 7 p.m. and again at 11 a.m. on Monday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Columbkille Church, 321 Market Street, Brighton where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 12 Noon. Burial will follow in Holyhood Cemetery, Brookline.
