Plymouth – Mr. Richard M. D'Addario, of Plymouth, formerly of Waltham, died Thursday, November 8, 2012 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. He was 73.
Richard was born on September 10, 1939 in Newark, New Jersey, a son of the late Carmine and Phyllis (DeBenedetto) D'Addario and lived in East Orange, New Jersey where he graduated from the local high school. He earned a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in electrical engineering from the New Jersey Institute of Technology. He later completed business studies at Babson College in Wellesley.
Until his retirement in March of last year Richard spent forty plus years working for the Raytheon Company in various research, engineering and executive capacities. He worked on the company's international business development and after retirement continued to do consulting in the defense industry. Locally he was a longtime math and science volunteer and mentor for the Waltham Boys and Girls Club.
A Waltham resident for most of his life he and his wife, Phyllis, moved to Plymouth a year ago where he continued his lifelong enjoyment of reading, golf, music and the movies. His greatest joy however came with spending time with his grandchildren, Jack and Grace, who affectionately called him Papa. He became their biggest fan and cheerleader and developed a keen interest and appreciation of baseball, hockey, dancing and gymnastics.
In addition to his beloved wife of 43 years, Phyllis M. (Casaccio) D'Addario, Richard leaves his children, Jennifer L. Farrell and her husband, Ryan, of Waltham and Samantha L. D'Addario and her husband, John Martellucci, of Watertown; his grandchildren, Jack and Grace Farrell; his brother, Donald P. D'Addario and his wife, June, of North Port, Florida and many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will honor and remember Richard's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Tuesday, November 13th, from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Wednesday morning before leaving in procession to Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, 880 Trapelo Road, Waltham where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham.
