Mr. Richard E. Dix, of Waltham, died unexpectedly at home on Saturday, January 8, 2022. He was 73.
Richard was born on April 11, 1948 in Stoneham, the son of the late Lester A. and Nina E. (Chipchase) Dix. He was a graduate of Melrose High School and honorably served his country during the Vietnam War in the United States Army.
Rich worked as a central office technician for Verizon Communications for many years, retiring in 2012. Prior to that, he was a long time employee for Duracell Corporation.
He was an avid golfer, and enjoyed playing, learning and reading about it. He especially enjoyed trivia and various online trivia sites, as well as online games such as Jeopardy and Sporcle.
Rich was a frequent volunteer at the Greater Boston Food Bank. His greatest love was traveling, especially on cruise lines.
Rich leaves his siblings, Lester A. Dix (Tanya) of Evansville, Indiana, Robert A. Dix (Bonnie) of Rochester, New Hampshire, Nancy E. Hartman (Freeman) of Bellville, Illinois and David A. Dix (Robin) of Londonderry, New Hampshire; also survived by nieces & nephews, grandnieces & grandnephews.
Family and friends will honor and remember Richard's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Sunday, January 16th from 2- 4 p.m. followed by a funeral service at 4 p.m. Burial in Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne is private.
