Waltham – Mr. Richard L. Eaton, of Waltham, died Monday, September 24, 2018 in Maristhill Nursing Home. He was 86.
Richard was born in Boston on July 3, 1932, a son of the late Harry and Esther (Eagan) Eaton. He married Eleanor L. Schofield on August 12, 1950 in Saint Patrick's Church in Roxbury. The couple moved to Newton in 1955 and to Waltham eighteen years ago.
He was a motion picture projectionist and worked for many years at the Embassy Theatre in Waltham and later for General Cinema in Burlington, Natick, and Framingham. He was a member of Local 505, the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees and Motion Picture Operators for over forty years.
Richard served with the United States Army and was a member of the Mahoney VFW Post on Dudley Street in Roxbury where he was also a member of the color guard. He was passionate about all things 'western', including movies, television and rodeos. He made it to fifteen National Rodeo Finals in Las Vegas, Nevada.
In addition to his wife, Eleanor, he leaves his son, Edward L. Eaton of Waltham; his grandsons, James M. Eaton (Lyndsay) and Eric P. Eaton; his great grandsons, Zachary, Alexander and Maxwell Eaton and several nieces and nephews.
Richard was the father-in-law of the late Robin "RJ" Eaton and the brother of the late Harry Eaton, Jr.
Family and friends will honor and remember Richard's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Thursday, September 27th, from 6 to 8 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Friday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Charles Borromeo Church, 51 Hall Street, Waltham where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Mount Benedict Cemetery, West Roxbury.
