Richard G. Lowe

East Falmouth - Dick Lowe was a jack of all trades….and unlike many he mastered most! He had a real talent for carpentry and furniture making with a self-driven demand for perfection. It was a gift. And now everything he touched remains a gift to his family and friends. He died Friday, September 22, 2017 in the hospital he was born, Mount Auburn in Cambridge. He was 71.

Richard Gordon Lowe was born August 13, 1946 in Cambridge a son of the late John E. and Bernadette (Gordon) Lowe. He graduated from Watertown High School, class of 1965. He earned his associate degree in computer science from Cape Cod Community College in 2010. On May 15, 2015 he proudly finished his education and earned his Bachelor's degree in management information systems from UMASS – Dartmouth and bragged about graduating as the oldest in his class.

He worked with Polaroid Corp. in Waltham as an analytical laboratory chemist. Upon retirement from Polaroid he moved to God's holy acre, known to many as Cape Cod. It provided him an opportunity to live closer to the ocean and take up general contracting and be his own boss. He loved his work and was good at it. He also worked for the Steamship Authority and the Woods Hole Lab Research Center.

Dick, Richard….Rich…however he was known was a much loved man. Impaired partially with his hearing he remained active in the deaf community and learned the ability to sign language. He was a member of the Otis Model Airplane Club and as the result of experiencing a ride in a red bi-plane he was in the midst of creating a model version of it. He loved boating, traveling and spending time off the Cape in Newport and Maine.

In addition to his parents he is predeceased by his sister, Eileen B. Wilson.

He leaves his son, Christopher G. Lowe of Waltham; his former wife and good friend, Eileen F. (McCarthy) Lowe of Waltham; his brothers, John 'Steven' Lowe and his wife, Shirley of Natick and Robert Lowe and his wife, Nancy of Arlington; also survived by many nieces & nephews.

Family and friends will honor and remember Richard's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Thursday, September 28th from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Friday morning before leaving in procession to Sacred Heart Church, 311 River Street, Waltham where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Mount Feake Cemetery.
