Richard A. Milton

Bolton – Mr. Richard A. Milton, of Bolton, died Thursday, December 20, 2012 at his home. He was 85.

Richard was born in Cambridge on August 30, 1927, a son of the late Sigfred Axelsson Milton and Elin Johansson Milton. He was raised in Belmont and in Watertown and was a graduate of Watertown High School. After that he served with the Massachusetts Air National Guard.

In the early 1950's Richard was a patrolman with the Waltham Police Department where he belonged to the department's award winning pistol team. After he left the department he joined the Waltham Police Auxiliary. He had lived in Waltham before moving to Wayland in 1984 and then to Bolton in 1998.

For many years Richard worked as a tool and die maker for the W.H. Nichols Company in Waltham and later owned Cashman's Cycle Center on Prospect Street in Waltham. He belonged to the Amvets Post No. 79 in Natick and the Blue Knights International where he was a former chaplain and vice-president of the local chapter. He had also been a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and had worshipped at the Waltham Free Evangelical Church.

The husband of the late Louise (Hayes) Milton he leaves his children, Linda S. Malo and her longtime companion, Scott Bandzul, of West Boylston, Richard A. Milton of Clinton, Gail B. Amabile and her husband, Hank, of Bolton and David W. Milton of Bolton; his grandchildren, Joshua Amabile and his wife, Rachel, of Leominster, Jessamyn Rockwell and her husband, Mike, of Concord, NH, Elin Weeman and her husband, Matthew, of Cambridge, Drew Amabile of Cambridge, Hunter Amabile of Bolton and Micaela and Joseph Malo, both of West Boylston; his great-grandchildren, Metias and Sawyer Amabile, Nolan, Wyatt and Bryce Rockwell and Navah Weeman; and many nieces and nephews.

Richard was a brother of the late William Milton, Elisabeth Laurin, Gilbert Milton and his twin, Robert Milton.

Family and friends will honor and remember Richard's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Thursday, December 27th, from 3 to 7 p.m. and again at 2 o'clock on Friday afternoon in Hope Chapel, 35 Chocksett Road, Sterling where a memorial service will be held. Burial will be private.
