Waltham – Mr. Richard T. ‘Rocky’ O’Reilly, of Waltham, died Thursday, August 19, 2010 at Newton Healthcare Center. He was 74.
Rocky was born in Waltham on March 16, 1936, a son of the late Langdon and Katherine (Hennessey) O’Reilly, and had been a lifelong resident. He worked for years at Grover Cronin’s Department Store on Moody Street in Waltham and most recently until his retirement at the Wal-Lex Laundromat in Waltham.
Rocky was a parishioner of Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church in Waltham where he served as an usher at the 11 o’clock Mass for more than thirty years. He was also a longtime coach and a past president of the North Waltham Little League.
He leaves his brother, Kenneth P. O’Reilly and his wife, Elaine, of Millis; his close friends, John Penny and his wife, Nancy, Bobby Brown and Leo K. all of Waltham and many nieces and nephews.
Rocky was also a brother of the late Roy, Thomas, Alfred, Arthur, Herbert, Donald and Edward O’Reilly, Helen Hedberg, Katherine Adshade and Margaret Rigoli.
Family and friends will honor and remember Rocky’s life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham, on Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. and again on Monday morning at 9 a.m. before leaving in procession to Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, 880 Trapelo Road, Waltham, where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Mt. Feake Cemetery, Waltham.
