Waltham - Mr. Richard F. Rossi, of Waltham, died Monday, September 5, 2011 at home. He was 55.
Rick was born on January 16, 1956 in Revere and was a graduate of Revere High School, class of 1974. He then earned a Bachelor's degree from Suffolk University. He married Sharon R. Joyce on September 15, 1979 in Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Parish in Waltham where they then made their home and raised their three children.
He worked for many years at Wang Laboratories in Lowell until 1985 before taking a position as Computer Director of M.I.S. Operations for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Legislative Branch at the Massachusetts State House in Boston. Rick loved his work at the State House and the many relationships and friendships that developed over the years.
Diagnosed with colon cancer five years ago he faced that challenge bravely and completely to the end.
His interests included baseball and he coached in the Waltham Youth Baseball Leagues for many years. He also enjoyed gardening and tending to his yard. Social and outgoing in nature he was comfortable and happiest when amongst his family and friends.
He leaves his wife, Sharon R. (Joyce) Rossi; his children, Melissa A. Rossi, Richard F. Rossi Jr. and Ashlee M. Rossi, all of Waltham and his much loved dog, "Julia".
Family and friends will honor and remember Rick's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 9:30 a.m. on Friday morning before leaving in procession to Our Lady Comforter of Afflicted Church, 880 Trapelo Road, Waltham, where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in Newton Cemetery.
