Brother Richard S. Spencer, C.S.S died on June 25, 2008, in Mount Auburn Hospital in Cambridge. He was 79.
Brother Richard was the son of the late Lynn L. and Edna J. (Benti) Spencer. He is survived by his sister, Elaine Hughes and her husband, Donald, of Wolfeboro, NH.
Brother Richard was born on March 28, 1929 in Fulton, NY, where he attended Phoenix High School and then went on to the I.T.L. Vocational Training School in Syracuse, NY. He was a proud member of the United States Marine Corps serving in the Korean War. A convert to Catholicism, Brother Richard entered the Stigmatine Community in Newton, MA on November 16, 1984. He professed his first vows on March, 19, 1986 and his final professions of vows on June 12, 1989. For most of his religious life, Brother Richard was stationed in Waltham and served the Stigmatine Community in many capacities. He ran the Print Shop for the Stigmatine Community for many years.
Brother Richard was a quiet, reserved person who always offered his best in any assignment. He was always ready to assist anyone in anyway, especially those who were ill.
Brother Richard's Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the Espousal Center Chapel, 554 Lexington St., Waltham, on Tuesday, July 1, 2008 at 11a.m.. His wake will precede the Funeral Mass from 9:00 to 10:45a.m. He will be buried at Sacred Heart of Jesus Cemetery, Milford, MA, at 1:30p.m..
