Bedford – Mr. Richard Wharton, of Bedford, died Wednesday, June 27, 2018 in Lowell Memorial Hospital. He was 70.
Richard was born July 19, 1947 in Cambridge a son of the late John and Alice (Beauchemin) Wharton and is predeceased by his only sibling, Alice Utter.
He was a much loved resident at the former Walter E. Fernald School in Waltham for over fifty years where he was a well-known fixture and altar server in its chapel. When the school closed he transitioned to the wonderful care and company of the Edinburg Center and lived in their Evergreen homes and most recently at Elmbrook.
His staff and friends exuded a special kind of love and provided Richard with a place he was able to call home. With their guidance and encouragement he in return made his home and environment a special place to live for everyone. He will be remembered as always friendly, funny and a good roommate. He was dependable for the kitchen clean up after each meal but wanted no part of its preparation. He had a terrific sense of humor and was a constant jokester.
He will be missed by his roommates at Elmbrook and all the staff of the Edinburg Center.
Friends will honor and remember Richard's life by gathering to visit in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Tuesday, July 3rd from 10 to 11 a.m. followed by his funeral service at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Shawsheen Cemetery, Bedford.
