Rita L. Brown

Ms. Rita L. Brown, of Waltham, died Monday, April 10, 2023 in Lahey Medical Center. She was 95.

Rita was born in Waltham on April 5, 1928 a daughter of the late Irish immigrants David J. and Mary E. (Seery) Brown. A graduate of Saint Mary's High School with the class of 1945 she earned her Bachelor's degree from Regis College. She remained a lifelong resident living the past twelve years at the Saint Mary’s Apartments.

She worked for many years as a secretary for Sun Financial Services before retiring.

A simple and private woman her needs were few. And while not blessed with children of her own she adored her nieces and nephew and their families. Meals out and rides around her much loved Waltham brought her simple joys and perhaps winning on a lottery ticket here and there. In earlier years she enjoyed travelling and recalled fondly her trips to Ireland, Italy and Spain.

Her faith remained with her throughout her ninety-five years and when her family would check in with her she routinely let them know she was ‘with her gang’ which meant she had her rosary and was with Jesus, Mary and Joseph.

In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her siblings, Mary Elizabeth Brown and James F. Brown (late Anna) and her niece, Janice T. Brown.

She leaves her nieces and nephew, Catherine C. Brown of Nashua, New Hampshire, Rita L. Brown, Anna F. Brown, Mary E. Burke and her husband, Richard, all of Waltham, Margaret E. Bates (late Gary) of Franklin, David J. Brown of Waltham, Dorothy M. McCall and her husband, Harry, of Natick and Patricia E. Temte and her husband, John, of Franklin; many great-nieces & great-nephews.

Family and friends will honor and remember Rita’s life by gathering for a calling hour in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham, on Tuesday, April 18^th from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. before leaving in procession to Sacred Heart Church, 311 River Street, Waltham, where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 12 Noon. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
