Framingham – Mrs. M. Rita (Flanagan) Maloney, of Framingham, died Friday, August 16, 2013 at Framingham Union Hospital. She was 85.
Rita was born in Waltham on January 23, 1928, a daughter of the late Michael and Mary Ellen (DeCourcey) Flanagan. She had been a lifelong member of Saint Mary's Church in Waltham and a member of the parish Mother's Club. She had also volunteered with the Cub Scouts and the Boy Scouts.
Until her retirement she worked as a nurse's aide for twenty-three years at Waltham Hospital. Rita and her husband, Richard E. Maloney, Sr. moved to Framingham thirteen years ago and the couple had been married for fifty-eight years until Richard's death on October 17, 2006.
She leaves her children, Marsha A. Notartomaso and her husband, Robert, of Nashua, New Hampshire, Richard E. Maloney, Jr. and his wife, Brenda, of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, David T. Maloney and his wife, Kelly; Douglas M. Maloney and his wife, Deborah, all of Framingham, Michael P. Maloney and his wife, Rachel, of Alexandria, VA and Lori A. Maloney and her spouse, Rebecca Connelly, of Framingham; eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Rita was a sister of the late Thomas, Michael and Peter Flanagan and Margaret Wilson and mother-in-law of the late Gretchen Maloney.
Family and friends will honor and remember Rita's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Monday, August 19th from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Tuesday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Mary's Church, 133 School Street, Waltham where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
