Waltham - Mr. Robert V. DiTommaso, of Waltham, died, Thursday, January 22, 2014 in EPOCH Senior Living in Weston. He was 79.
Robert was born in Newton on October 25, 1935, a son of the late Valeriano and Katherine (Tiberio) DiTommaso. Shortly after high school he joined the United States Air Force and over the span of the next five years enjoyed traveling the world, visiting such places as Turkey, England and Spain. After leaving the service he worked as a manufacturing supervisor, beginning his career at Unitrode and retiring from Raytheon, both in Waltham.
His family was most important to him and he cherished time he spent with his three grandchildren. In his spare time he played guitar and loved music of all kinds, especially jazz and bluegrass. One of his other hobbies was refurbishing old furniture.
He leaves his wife, Ruth (Reese) DiTommaso; his children, Robert V. DiTommaso and his wife, Sharon, of Waltham, Valeriano DiTommaso and his wife, Tara, of Texas and Valencia 'Cia' DiTommaso of Newton; his grandchildren, Isabella, Reese, Bailey and Michaela DiTommaso and his siblings, Lorraine Conley and Mary Ann Passi both of Newton.
Robert was also the brother of the late Louis DiTommaso.
Family and friends will honor and remember Robert's life by gathering for calling hours on Friday, January 30th from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham and will conclude with his funeral service at 8 p.m. Burial will be private.
