Waltham – Mr. Robert H. 'Bob' Gallagher, of Waltham, died suddenly Thursday, January 28, 2010 in Newton-Wellesley Hospital. He was 86. Bob was born in Lackawana, New York on July 11, 1923, a son of the late Richard and Jennie (Quillinan) Gallagher and had lived in Waltham for over seventy years. He was a graduate of Waltham High School, Class of 1942 and a graduate of Boston College, Class of 1950. During World War II he served for three and a half years with the United States Army Air Corps. He was a member of the Joseph F. Hill American Legion Post No. 156 in Waltham. He also belonged to the Waltham and Watertown Art Associations. Bob also volunteered in the money management program at Springwell in Waltham. A chemical engineer, he worked for the Raytheon Company for thirty five years until his retirement. Bob is survived by his wife, Elizabeth F. (Murphy) Gallagher; his children, Nancy Veiga of Ipswich, Mary Egerton and Stephen Gallagher both of Medway, Richard Gallagher and Robert Gallagher both of Waltham, William Gallagher of Hingham, Kathleen Winarski, Paul Gallagher, Philip Gallagher, Neal Gallagher, and John Gallagher all of Florida; nine grandchildren, one great-grandson and many nieces and nephews. He was the husband of the late Eleanor T. (Glynn) Gallagher and the father of the late Mark Gallagher. Family and friends will honor and remember Bob's life by gathering for calling hours in the Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street, (Rte. 20), Waltham on Tuesday from 3 to 7 p.m. and again at 8 a.m. on Wednesday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Mary's Church, 133 School Street, Waltham, where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Burial will follow in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham.
