Robert F. Gardiner

Waltham – Mr. Robert F. Gardiner of Waltham died Sunday, March 21, 2004 at Kindred Hospital, Brighton. He was 71. Born in Waltham, a son of the late Augustus and Margaret (O’Donnell) Gardiner, he was a lifelong resident. Until his retirement he worked as a meat cutter for 40 years at the Star Market Company. Mr. Gardiner was an avid golfer and a member of the Loyal Order of Moose, Lodge No. 1018 in Waltham. During the Korean War he served with the U.S. Air Force. He leaves his wife of 49 years, Mary S. (Saulnier) Gardiner; his children, Denise Spataro and her husband Louis of Milford, Gwen Gardiner, Gail Gardiner, Billy Gardiner and his wife Christine, and Debra Gardiner all of Waltham; his grandchildren, Jay Goulding of Hollywood, CA, Jessica Goulding, Lyndsay, Ryan, Tori, Emma and Olivia Gardiner all of Waltham, Joey Spataro and his wife Kim of Framingham, LeeAnn Spataro of Newton and Loretta Kaufman and her husband David of Framingham; his great-grandchildren, Atavio, Bianca and Ashlee Spataro; two brothers, Benjamin Gardiner of Nashua, NH and John Gardiner of Waltham; three sisters, Emily Gardiner of Waltham, Mary Stevens of Westport, CT and Ruth Irvin of Two Rivers, WI and many nieces and nephews. He was also a brother of the late William Gardiner and Helen Phillips. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral at 9 a.m. Thursday from The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham followed by a Funeral Mass in Saint Charles Borromeo Church, 51 Hall Street, Waltham at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham. Visiting hours are Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, One Bromfield Street, 5th floor, Boston, MA 02108.
