Robert C. Hill of Watertown passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on Monday, May 22, 2023 at the Care Dimensions Hospice House in Lincoln, following a 17 month courageous battle with Glioblastoma. He was 74 years old.
Born on February 28, 1949 in Milford, Connecticut, he was the son of the late Robert Hill and Jane (Palmer) Hill-Harrington. Raised in Waltham, he was a 1967 graduate of Waltham High School and attended Westfield State College.
Robert (also known as “Bob,” “Robbie,” “Harlim,” “Bumpy,” or “H”) worked as a route sales driver for Belmont Springs for over 20 years, then drove for Veterans Taxi for a decade, and most recently worked for the City of Waltham as both a school bus driver and a crossing guard. It was likely for Bob to know someone everywhere he went and very likely that person had nice things to say about him.
He was a loving husband, father, uncle, and grandfather who was happiest while in the company of his family and friends. Sports were always a big part of Bob’s life, playing on an over 40 club basketball team for many years, where they even traveled to Europe to compete. He especially enjoyed cheering on his grandchildren at their sporting events in recent years. He would watch any sporting event on TV, from his beloved Celtics to the Premier League soccer matches.
He loved the beach, whether it was Marblehead, Revere, or Cape Cod, Bob’s version of a good day would be feet in the sand, face in the sun, Mel by his side, and a cold beer in his hand. He will be missed by his family and the many dear friends that knew and loved him.
In addition to his wife Melanie A. (Moore) Stanley-Hill, he leaves his daughter Jessica (Hill) Clinton (Brian) of Westwood and stepson Michael Stanley (Elizabeth) of Waltham; his grandchildren Eve, Olivia, and Ryan Clinton, and Rebecca Stanley; his siblings Deborah Hill Caban (John) and David Hill both of Bedford, and step-siblings Mary Harrington Ormon (Dale) of Brewster, Martin Harrington of Ossipee, New Hampshire, Andrew Harrington of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Eileen Harrington of Woodstock, New York, and Christine Harrington of Winthrop. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
