Beverly – Deacon Robert N. Johnson, of Beverly, formerly of Waltham, died Friday, January 13, 2017 at his home. He was 79.
Bob was a son of the late Norman and Dorothy (Cooney) Johnson and was born and raised in Cambridge. He graduated from Cambridge Latin School before earning his bachelor's degree from Bentley College. He later achieved a master's degree in business administration from Northeastern University in Boston.
He worked as an accountant for the Raytheon Company for thirty-nine years before holding the same position with Micro-Semiconductor Company in Watertown.
Bob had a calling to ministry and was ordained at Holy Cross Cathedral to the Permanent Diaconate of the Archdiocese of Boston on May 17, 1986. By that time he also held a degree in counseling from Cambridge College.
His first Mass was at his home parish of Sacred Heart in Watertown and his assignments included Saint Jean's Parish in Newton, Saint Joseph's in Waltham and at Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Parish in Waltham. He was a longtime member of Knights of Columbus Council No. 14710 at Our Lady's.
He leaves his wife, Jessie I. (MacInnis) Johnson; his children, Joseph R. Johnson and his wife, Renee, of Beverly and Mark P. Johnson and his wife, Meredith, of Portland, Maine; his grandchildren, Emily A. and Hannah E. Johnson; his step-grandchildren, Emma and Lyla Campbell and his brother, Allen Johnson of Fitchburg.
Bob was also a brother of the late Joan Moran.
Family and friends will honor and remember Bob's life by gathering to visit at 9 a.m. on Saturday morning, January 21st in Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, 880 Trapelo Road, Waltham where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will be private.
