Bob Lee was able to reap what he sowed most of his life. He was a kind and gentle man with a determined work ethic. Upon his death on Sunday, August 12, 2018 at his home in Sharon when family and friends learn of his death it's greeted with sadness but a universal agreement that he was one of the kindest people on earth. He was 83.
Born on September 24, 1934 in Boston, Robert J. Lee was raised and educated in South Boston. The family home on Farragut Avenue is where his late parents James and Claire (McSolla) would raise Bob and his sister, Nancy. A graduate of South Boston High School with the class of 1952 he later attended Northeastern University. He honorably served his country in the United States Army and would later marry South Boston native Lorraine M. Marsden in Saint Brigid Church on East Broadway on September 16, 1961. They lived over 30 years in Braintree before moving to Sharon over two years ago. They also maintained a home in Meredith, New Hampshire on Lake Winnipesaukee. Bob often told Lorraine early on in their marriage that if full time employment was available in New Hampshire he would of made it their full time home. Instead Bob worked for over 35 years at Polaroid Corporation in various locations and positions but ended his career in inventory control before enjoying retirement in 1997. Bob loved the many friendships that ensued from his work at Polaroid and regardless of where he and Lorraine would travel they would run into co-workers.
Bob took things in moderation and while he worked hard he never spent beyond his means. He wanted the simple things for himself but the best for his wife and family. Trips to the casino or walks around his native Castle Island in Southie and time with his two grandchildren were things that brought him happiness.
In addition to his wife of 56 years, Lorraine he leaves their daughters, Elizabeth A. Pennachio (George aka Beaver) of Waltham and Laura A. Schmitt of Walpole; his grandchildren, Claire L. Schmitt and Jared L. Schmitt; his sister, Nancy Farma of South Boston; his sisters-in-law, Lorraine Marsden of Pasadena, California and Christina Henderson of Middleborough; nieces & nephews.
Family and friends will honor and remember Bob's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Thursday, August 16th from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Friday before leaving in procession to Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, 880 Trapelo Road, Waltham where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will be private.
Memorials in his name may be made to VNA Care Network & Hospice, 254 2nd Ave #200, Needham, MA 02494.
