Robert “Michael” Lyons, of Ashland, died Tuesday, June 27, 2023 at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. He was 71.
Michael was born on December 12, 1951, a son of the late William and Mary “Rigney” Lyons. He was born, raised and educated in Cambridge. After high school he was drafted and served honorably in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Following his discharge he continued to serve in the National Guard for many years and had also worked as engineer for the State, in the Mass Highway Department, for more than 35 years until his retirement in 2020.
Michael loved spending time with his family, especially when they would take the travel trailer camping. They made many happy memories vacationing in York Maine, up in the White Mountains, or down the Cape next to the canal.
Michael leaves his wife Marjorie Lyons of Ashland; son Robert Michael Lyons, Jr. also of Ashland; his siblings Mary Kane of Cambridge, James Lyons of Newton, Edward Lyons of Stoneham, and John Lyons of Readville. He was also the brother of the late William and Richard Lyons.
Family and friends will celebrate Michael’s life by gathering for calling hours at The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street, (Rte. 20), Waltham, on Tuesday July 11th from 4 to 7 p.m. Burial with military honors will take place in Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne on Wednesday July 12th at 2:30 p.m.
