Waltham- Mr. Robert P. ‘Mac’ MacDonald, Sr., of Waltham died Monday, April 4, 2011 at Lahey Clinic Medical Center in Burlington. He was 81.
Robert was born in Somerville on June 27, 1929, a son of the late Clarence and Margaret (Queenane) MacDonald and had lived in Waltham for over seventy years. Until his retirement, Mac had worked for thirty-five years as a letter carrier with the United States Postal Service at its Waltham branch on Main Street. He was a member of the Saint Mary’s Holy Name Society, and enjoyed golfing, planting, and gardening. Mac also served with the United States Navy during the Korean War.
He leaves his children, Deborah A. Catalfamo of Wilmington, Pamela A. Dellanno and her husband, Robert, of Billerica, Robert P. MacDonald, Jr., and his wife, Sharon, of Sudbury, and Daniel E. MacDonald of Wilmington, his sisters, Margaret Keefe, Dorothea Farraher, and Jean Arena all of Waltham, nine grandchildren, one great-grandchild and many nieces and nephews.
Robert was the husband of the late Betty J. (Blue) MacDonald, and brother of the late Mary Erickson, William, Clarence, and John MacDonald.
Family and friends will honor and remember Mac’s life by gathering for calling hours in the Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street, (Rte.20), Waltham on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Friday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Mary’s Church, 133 School Street, Waltham where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham.
