Waltham – Reverend Robert H. Masciocchi, 89, a member of the Stigmatine community for more than seventy years, died in Boston on April 10, 2017 after a brief illness.
Father Masciocchi, CSS was born in Boston, Massachusetts on September 14, 1927, the son of the late Enrico and Carolina (Miglierina) Masciocchi and was educated in Boston Public Schools. After graduating from high school he joined the Congregation of the Sacred Stigmata of our Lord Jesus Christ (Stigmatine Fathers and Brothers) in 1945, making his first religious profession of vows in 1948. Father Masciocchi was ordained a priest in Rome on June 12, 1954. He went on to graduate studies and was granted a Master of Arts degree from Boston College and a Doctorate in Pastoral Counseling from the Andover-Newton School of Theology.
During almost 63 years in the priesthood, Father Masciocchi served in a variety of ministries as a pastor, seminary professor and retreat director. He was active in substance abuse rehabilitation programs and prison ministry. Father Bob conducted healing services and led retreats, in addition to being a licensed counselor in the state of Massachusetts. He had been active in Cursillo, Marriage Encounter and the Catholic Charismatic Renewal.
At the time of his death he was serving as Director of the Espousal Retreat House and Conference Center in Waltham.
Father Bob was predeceased by his two brothers Emil Mashie (Elizabeth) and Reno Masciocchi (Marie), as well as his sister Mary Inez Saulnier (George). His memory is cherished by his nephews and nieces: Henry and Linda Masciocchi, Hermann and Caroline Worthmann, George and Mary Saulnier, Robert and Kathleen Saulnier, Gerald and Judith Trovato, David and Mary Mashie, and Nancy Sacino, as well as many grandnieces, grandnephews and cousins. He leaves also the members of his religious family, the Stigmatine Fathers and Brothers, with whom he shared life and ministry for almost seventy-two years, as well as many friends and people whom he touched by his devoted priestly ministry.
Family and friends are invited to calling hours at the Espousal Retreat House, 554 Lexington Street, Waltham on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be concelebrated at the Espousal Retreat House Chapel on April 19, 2017, at 10:00 A.M. Internment will be at the Stigmatine plot at Sacred Heart Cemetery, 110 Medway Road, Milford.
