Columbia, South Carolina – Mr. Robert M. McHugh, Sr. of Columbia, South Carolina, died Saturday, October 9, 2010 in the White Oak Manor Nursing Home in Columbia. He was 92.
Bob was born in Newton on June 23, 1918, a son of the late Michael and Catherine (Bennet) McHugh. He had lived in South Carolina since 2005. Prior to that, he had lived in Little Rock, Arkansas, San Diego, California, and in Waltham. Until his retirement he worked for many years as a quality control inspector for the Raytheon Company. During World War II he served with the United States Marine Corps. Bob was also an avid golfer.
He was the husband of the late Anne M. (Doherty) McHugh and the father of the late Anne Marie Johnson.
Bob is survived by his son, Robert M. McHugh, Jr. of Columbia, SC; his son in law, Joel Johnson of Little Rock, AR; his grandchildren, Valerie Farlee of Little Rock AR, Pamela McCoy of Collierville, TN, Michael Johnson of Little Rock AR, Brian McHugh of Framingham and Jennifer McHugh of New Bedford; five great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will honor and remember Bob’s life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. and again at 8 a.m. on Tuesday morning before leaving in procession to The Blessed Sacrament Chapel of Saint Charles Borromeo Church, 51 Hall Street, Waltham where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
