Waltham – Mr. Robert H. McMurtry, of Waltham, died Monday, July 20, 2015 at the Lahey Clinic in Burlington. He was 77.
Bob was born in Boston on April 4, 1938, a son of the late George H. and Margaret R. (Meara) McMurtry. He had lived in Roslindale, Jamaica Plain, West Roxbury and Dedham before moving to Waltham thirty years ago. He was a 1957 graduate of Jamaica Plain High School and served with the United States Marine Corps Reserves.
Until his retirement Bob worked as a letter carrier for over forty years for the United States Postal Service, primarily at their main office in Waltham. After that he delivered for Dan's Flowers and for Auto Parts International, both in Waltham.
Bob loved traveling to Florida as well as trying his luck in Las Vegas, Foxwoods, and Twin River. On Fridays, he enjoyed playing bingo at Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church in Waltham and on Sundays, at Saint Catherine of Sienna Church in Norwood.
He leaves his wife, Catherine A. (Gillis) McMurtry; his children, Robert McMurtry and his wife, Maureen, of N. Lauderdale Florida, Richard McMurtry and his wife, Brenda, of Readville, Paul McMurtry, David McMurtry and Annmarie Landry and her husband, Adam, all of Dedham; his step-son, Thomas Petrulavage and his loving companion, Joanie, of Revere; twelve grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Bob was the brother of the late Barbara Coote.
Family and friends will honor and remember Bob's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Sunday, July 26th from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Monday morning before leaving in procession to Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, 880 Trapelo Road, Waltham where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham.
