Robert E. Short

Waltham – Mr. Robert E. Short, of Waltham, died Friday, January 6, 2017 at Mount Auburn Hospital in Cambridge. He was 93.

Bob was born in Waltham on July 17, 1923, a son of the late Albert and Effie (Brigham) Short. From Waltham High School he joined the United States Army Air Corps in 1942 and served with the 320th Repair Squadron in India for close to three years.

On April 19, 1952 he married his sweetheart, Laura A. Viscogliosi, in Sacred Heart Church and the couple made Waltham their lifetime home. A carpenter by trade, he later graduated from Wentworth Institute.

In 1988 Bob retired as a project manager from Scott and Duncan, a Boston architectural firm. Bob was the oldest active member of the Carpenter's Union, Local 275, an organization he belonged to for the past seventy-five years.

Bob was also a member of the Air Force Sergeant's Association, the China-Burma-India Veterans Association, the Joseph F. Hill American Legion Post No. 156 in Waltham, the Waltham Knights of Columbus, the Fernald School Volunteer Association, and he had been on the board of advisors in carpentry for Waltham Vocational High School.

In addition to his wife of sixty-five years, Laura, he leaves his children, Joan Cincotta of Burlington and Judith Kelley of Waltham; his sons-in-law, Robert Cincotta and Robert Kelley; his grandchildren, Andrew Cincotta and his wife, Amanda (Colford), of Billerica, Christopher Cincotta and his wife, Sarah (Matos), of Chicago, Illinois, Peter Cincotta and his fiancée, Sarah Prybylowski, of Charlestown, and Elizabeth Kelley Dunleavy and her husband, Thomas Dunleavy, of Charlestown; his great-grandchildren, Owen, Oliver, Sawyer, Piper and Liliana Cincotta and many nieces, nephews and their families.

Bob was also a brother of the late Thomas Short, Marjorie Barter, Virginia Freeman, Marion Jones and Eleanor Ahlman Maillet.

Family and friends will honor and remember Bob's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Wednesday, January 11th from 4 to 8 p.m. and will conclude with his funeral service at 8 p.m. Burial is private.
