Bob Silva was a man of few words; however, he really did have some great one-liners! Outside of his devotion and love for his family, Bob was most content when tending to his home, gardens and yard in Waltham. There is no question he had a green thumb, and his yard was the envy of his street, but Bob’s parcel of land was his little oasis and heaven on earth…most especially when filled with family and friends.
Robert L. Silva was born on November 9, 1954, in Cambridge. He was a son of the late Joseph and Evelyn (Rose) Silva. Raised in Cambridge’s Portuguese neighborhood on Cambridge Street in the Parish of Saint Anthony; he graduated from Cambridge Rindge Technical High School. He married his wife Susan in September of 1985 and they began to build their life together.
Bob worked hard over the years to support his family having worked at Advent Corporation, Kloss Video Corporation, where he would meet his wife Susan, and at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology for over thirty-five years in a variety of roles including Grounds, Athletics, Movers and finally as a Housing Mechanic all in his native Cambridge before retiring in July 2021.
In addition to his love for yardwork, he faithfully followed NASCAR, NHRA Drag Racing and the Boston Red Sox. Annual vacations on Cape Cod in Dennis meant relaxation, West Dennis Beach, good food and family. He listened to the police scanner faithfully while going about his daily routine. He took great pride in being a dad to his two boys, but the ultimate joy came in being called “VuVu’ (Portuguese for grandfather).
Bob died peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday, December 9, 2022 in Newton-Wellesley Hospital after a battle with a myriad of illnesses. He was 68.
He leaves his beloved wife of 37 years, Susan P. (Corkery) Silva; his twin sons, Robert A. Silva (Kelli Tower) of Sutton and Christopher M. Silva (Monica) of Milford; his grandsons, Michael J. and Dominic A. Silva; his brothers, Albert Silva of Arlington and Lawrence Silva of Cambridge and is mother-in-law, Lillian (Thorne) Corkery (late Paul) of Waltham; brother-in-law, Steven Corkery (Julie) of Natick; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and their families
Bob is reunited with his siblings Elaine Masyada (late Frank), Joseph Jr., Pauline and Frank Silva.
